Why is Tanzanite "The Investment"?
We here at Tanzanite Authority along with any other intelligent, educated investors understand a few very important points about investments.
Firstly what makes something a viable, secure and potentially, hugely profitable investment? Well, can you imagine what it is to own and have a supply of anything that is treasured, in increasing demand and has a rapidly dwindling supply?
What if that commodity is something that can only be found in one place, is hard to get at and incredibly easy to accidentally destroy during the extraction process?
Also, imagine that the commodity is something that people not only wish to have as an investment, but actually covet its incomparable beauty and its healing and therapeutic properties.
Would you consider a commodity, that fits all those criteria, a viable, secure and potentially, hugely profitable investment?
Why Tanzanite?
Tanzanite Authority believes that anybody looking for an infallible investment would have to consider anything of that caliber an essential part of any investment portfolio.
As you will know if you have done any research into Tanzanite, it is fast becoming increasingly more and more difficult to find Tanzanite in the better grades and colors. Also in the larger, heavier sizes.
Most of the material presently coming out of the ground is of much lower quality than previously available for a fair price. However, the demand for this incredible precious gemstone is growing rapidly on a daily basis. To the extent that most discerning jewellery chains are hoarding tanzanite in the surety that prices are going to rise to dramatically higher levels.
Where Will Tanzanite Go From Here?
As if this weren't enough, many sources show that in 2005 in Tucson, the mine owners turned up and quite literally bought back all that was available.
We believe this is a fair indication that there is only one possible way for the price of the world's first gemstone to be added to the American Gem Society's list of birthstones that is greatly desired for its stunning beauty and therapeutic, healing properties to go. Where do you think that will be?
A great difference between Tanzanite and Diamonds is that they are so much rarer, rapidly running out and far easier to destroy. Also re cutting and polishing to disguise a particular stone would, due to it only being 6.5 on the Moh scale of hardness be incredibly difficult therefore making it a safer investment in terms of security. However it has the advantage of all gemstones in that it is easily transportable as opposed to commodities such as gold and oil.
Investment Guidelines
When purchasing Tanzanite gems, there are several primary factors that you will need to consider. These factors relate to Colour, Clarity, Carat Weight, Cut (The 4 C's) and Certification.

Tanzanite Gemstone Certification
You should only purchase a stone that is Independently Certified by a recognizable laboratory. All of our Members use HKD Labs as a Certification Authority for all of our Tanzanite Gems.
Tanzanite Color and Grading Systems
There are a multitude of Tanzanite grading systems in use. As yet, there is no universally accepted method of grading the stone. The grading system recommended by the Tanzanite Authority and Tanzanite Gemstone is that of HKD Diamond Laboratories in Canada, a progressively thinking laboratory with offices in Canada, Thailand and India (all of which are trained by the Gemological Institute of America).

Gemstone Clarity
Clarity simply refers to how inclusion free a stone is. The top grade stones, as a rule, should be at worst eye clean, but preferably loupe clean (how a stone looks under a microscope).

Carat Weight
Whilst Tanzanite does exist in excess of 100 carats, generally speaking stones range from under a carat to 20 carats or more with AAA Grade stones over 10 cts being viewed as rare. Bear in mind however that the carat weight will also affect the price of a stone with heavier stones fetching a premium.
Gemstone Cut
The most commonly available Tanzanite gemstone cuts on the market today are Oval, Cushion (although they are becoming increasingly harder to obtain), Trilliant and Pear Shaped stones. Other cuts, such as round, emerald, princess and heart shaped stones, are very desirable and rare.
